Laguna Creek Watershed Trash Clean-Up Project
Ongoing clean up of the North Laguna Creek Wildlife Area, 2022 - Present

We are working on clearing an approximately one mile long stretch of Laguna Creek of many years accumulation of illegally dumped trash. We also pick up garbage washed downstream from upper reaches of the creek, along with trash deposited by the multiple ancillary water flows that join the creek in the one mile stretch we are focusing on. In the first nine months of this effort, we’ve gone through 300 kitchen-sized 13 gallon trash bags along with one dump trailer load and numerous pickup truck loads of larger debris.

Our efforts are focused on the one mile stretch of creek from the Franklin Boulevard bridge overpass to the pedestrian bridge crossing the creek that connects Jacinto Avenue and North Laguna Creek Park in Sacramento with Fieldale Drive and the North Laguna Creek Wildlife Area in Elk Grove.

Special thanks to Francesca Street Elk Grove resident, Carolyn, for upgrading to an extra large trash bin and allowing us to fill it with much of the trash that’s come out of the wildlife area, along with giving us her Republic Services annual free dump pass. Also to Firestone Complete Auto Care of Stockton Boulevard Sacramento and store manager Ken Thrasher for letting us drop off the truck tires and wheels for recycling that we have so far hauled out of the cre.
